April 2025

April Fools!

They were confused why there weren't any donuts at first, but then proceeded to eat most of the veggies! Made me realize that just having healthy snacks out and available (and treats stashed away) is more effective than requiring them to eat a certain amount.

Clara had the Patriot's Day curriculum day for 4th grade this month (focusing on the revolutionary war). She chose to be King George III, and loved every minute of it! She had to be a "wax figure", holding as still as possible, until someone walked over and pushed the button on her poster. She then gave her memorized speech in first person from the view point of King George, and afterward returned to her frozen position. She took the whole thing very seriously!

Dave hosted a Final Four watch party for the Elder's Quorum in our ward. They had a quorum bracket competition, complete with a large trophy for the winner and a very tiny trophy for the loser. 😉

Piano Recital!
The theme for this spring's piano recital was Disney, and Macy chose to play "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast. She made such a sweet Belle and loved singing along just like her older siblings. Clara played "A Whole New World", and Cole played "Arabian Nights", both from Aladdin. They made such a cute duo! It makes my momma heart happy to see my 14-yr-old son dress up as Aladdin to make his younger sister happy.

It's turkey season, and we have a large flock of turkeys that likes to roam our property. Our friend Tyler Quist and his son Cole came several times in the early mornings to try and hunt them with no luck. It seemed like every time I was outside I would see or hear them though, so finally I just text him when I could see they were out, they raced over, and very shortly thereafter had themselves a great big Tom Turkey. We could see them hunting from off our back deck and out of the kids' balcony doors, and were cheering them on the whole time. Benson loved seeing the turkey after they killed it and touching it's feathers. Such a fun memory!

Lexi's meet season is in full swing and she continues to gain confidence and improve in her skills.

We attempted to have a fun outdoor Easter Egg hunt at our home, but of course Colorado Spring decided to play a joke on us and gave us a blizzard that night instead. I saw this meme and thought it was pretty apropos. Hiding eggs in our modern home is harder than you would think, so we had to be creative.

There were many beautiful days this month, and we took advantage of one to take our family on a walk through Garden of the Gods. We saw some pretty cool Big Horn Sheep very close to us.

Lexi with the girls from her YW class at our stake Easter Exhibit.

Benson was invited to his first friends birthday party, Hudson and Nixon turned 4!

Macy discovered the magic of Lite Brights and spent many hours in our dark powder room with the lights off to see it glow.

Clara was part of a children's choir this spring and has discovered a love of singing.

Her good friends Emma, Hannah and Belle were in the choir with her.

I participated in the "Lamb of God" choir this spring, which was a wonderful experience. We sang with an orchestra and many soloists; the spirit was strong and it was a beautiful way to testify of the divine life and mission of our Savior, Jesus Christ. These were my Alto I peeps.

This is how most sacrament meetings are going these days....the kid is growing and holding still and being quiet = sleeping.

I am the girls activity days leader in our ward, and get to spend some fun evenings with Clara and her friends. Here she made temples out of marshmallows and toothpicks and frosting.

Benson loves his lipstick kisses from Grandma Blacker.

The girls and I went to go see a family friend dance as Cinderella in the ballet. We had so much fun together.

Games with Grandma and Grandpa Blacker is always a good time.

Clara's 4th grade class with Mrs. Walker.

We took Cole in to get his annual eye exam, and he was so tired that he tried sleeping in the chair while we were waiting. Benson, on the other hand, had no problem at all entertaining himself in front of the mirror they had on the wall. 😂

TCA Central Art Show

The kids have started selling fresh eggs in our driveway to the people passing by, as well as going around to our neighbors. They think it's the best thing ever. Benson insisted on holding his sign upside down - I think it adds to the cuteness factor. Fortunately for them, egg prices are crazy high right now due to a bird flu that has wiped out a good portion of egg-producing chickens. I think for a couple weeks there were selling them for $8/dozen.

Macy was getting ready for gymnastics but needed another piano practice - it cracks me up that she can practice sitting like this, but I'll take it anyway I can get it.

Benson is loving dress up these days. He dawns his sisters' fairy and witch costumes alongside his swords and shields and somehow everything turns into a weapon.
