Glacier National Park
We have been planning this family trip for a long time, and it did not disappoint! It was a long drive up to the northern border of Montana and Canada, but with a couple audio books that we listened to as a family, lots of junk food, and an overnight stop, we made it! The trip started off in West Glacier, with lots of time spent on Going to the Sun Road.
West Glacier
Avalanche Lake Hike
The first big hike we did with the kids was just over 5 miles, and they did amazing! Hiking near streams and lakes, with big rocks to climb on and Grandma and Grandpa's hands to hold makes all the difference.
Logan Pass
Logan Pass was one of the highlights of the trip. We got to hike on a glacier, saw a big horned sheep, a family of mountain goats, lots of ground squirrels, marmots, and a couple grizzly bears! The bears were very close to the trail that many other hikers were on, and it was a little nerve-racking. We kept our distance but those animals are huge.
Lake MacDonald
This lake has the most beautiful, colorful rocks we have ever seen. It is also probably one of the coldest ones we have ever swam in. Glacier water is no joke!
White-water rafting
Macy was just tall enough to join us on a trip down the Flathead River. It was beautifully clear and COLD.
Kayaking
After rafting we got some tips from the guide about less-intense stretches of the river that were fun to kayak down. Dave took Lexi, Clara and Benson down that part of the river in our kayaks. Benson especially loved it.
Horseback Riding
East Glacier
We spent a few days at Glacier Park Lodge in East Glacier as well. It was really neat to spend some time in the historic hotel and surrounding beauty.
St. Mary and Virginia Falls Hike
There were some brave souls cliff jumping near one of the falls into the glacial waters, and Dave decided to give it a try. He was a little chilly on the hike back to the car...
Running Eagle Falls at Two Medicine
This was our last hike on the way out, and the only day it was a little rainy for our trip. It was worth it though! This falls was actually a double falls, where one falls went into a cave and came out as a second falls went over the top and came down. Super cool.
